The National Agency for the Security of Information Systems of Côte d'Ivoire (ANSSI) has denied rumors of an alleged coup d’état in Côte d'Ivoire circulating on the social network X (formerly Twitter), calling them “false and completely unfounded” in a statement seen by Abidjan.net on Thursday, May 22, 2025.
“Publications currently circulating on the X network claim that a coup d’état has taken place in Côte d'Ivoire,” the statement sent to Abidjan.net reads. According to the Ivorian security agency, “this claim is totally unfounded. It is the result of a deliberate and coordinated disinformation campaign.”
Furthermore, ANSSI reminded the public that spreading false information is an offense punishable by legal sanctions. The agency also urged the population to remain vigilant and to consult only official sources for information.
On Wednesday evening, posts in English on X reported an alleged coup d’état occurring in the country.
