Great News for the Population of Bouaké: The Ivorian Government Announces the Creation of a Cardiological Institute in the City

In a significant development for the population of Bouaké, the government of Côte d'Ivoire has announced the creation of a world-class cardiological institute in the city.

During the Council of Ministers meeting on Wednesday, February 12, 2025, the Ivorian executive revealed plans to establish the Institute of Cardiology in Bouaké, located in the center of the country.

To this end, a decree outlining the creation, responsibilities, organization, and operation of this public health institution was adopted.

The opening of this new center of excellence in cardiology is scheduled for the first quarter of 2025.

According to the government's spokesperson, the Bouaké Cardiological Institute (BCI) is “built to be a center of excellence with a national and sub-regional vocation.”

It will occupy a constructed area of 15,000 square meters, with an estimated capacity to handle 12,000 consultations, 4,750 hospitalizations, 3,800 cardiological emergencies, 520 intensive care patients, and 290 open-heart surgeries.

“The BCI will be equipped with a training center for both national and international doctors in partnership with the Montreal Institute of Cardiology and the University Hospital of Nantes, aimed at significantly increasing the number of cardiologists in Côte d'Ivoire and ensuring the continuous training of medical staff,” added Amadou Coulibaly, the Ivorian government spokesperson.

On one hand, this initiative, which is highly beneficial for the population, aims to improve access to quality healthcare for Ivorians while also preventing cardiovascular diseases.

On the other hand, it will contribute to a significant reduction in deaths related to cardiovascular diseases and strokes.

Furthermore, Amadou Coulibaly clarified that the institute will begin operating progressively. However, the government’s goal is to ensure that the BCI reaches its full operational capacity by 2027.
