Minister of Technical Education, Professional Training, and Apprenticeship, N'Guessan Koffi, Outlines Major Initiatives for 2025

On Tuesday, January 28, 2025, N'Guessan Koffi, the Minister of Technical Education, Professional Training, and Apprenticeship, announced key activities for his department in 2025 during a New Year’s wishes presentation ceremony for sector stakeholders in Abidjan-Cocody.

These initiatives include the opening of seven new vocational high schools in Ebimpé, Yamoussoukro, Diabo, Dabakala, Kong, Korhogo, and Gbéléban. Construction work for these modern infrastructures began in January 2022. These new schools will have a capacity of 5,600 students and 3,225 beds in their dormitories.

2025 will also see the continuation of many other initiatives in line with the strategic plan, the minister added. This includes ongoing rehabilitation projects, the construction of new schools in Dabou, Agboville, Dimbokro, and Daloa, the completion of renovations at the Abidjan Technical High School, and the Bouaké Technical High School to transform them into centers of technical excellence and technological innovation. There will also be a focus on strengthening the training of trainers both within Côte d'Ivoire and abroad.

Additionally, plans include enhancing the capabilities of management within the entire system, developing specific teaching materials, and increasing South-South cooperation to deliver international-standard training. Furthermore, academic partnerships will be expanded.

According to the minister, 2025 will aim to significantly increase enrollment in technical and professional education. "The goal is to increase the share of secondary school students enrolled in technical education from 5% in 2021 to 10% in the upcoming school year, thanks to the opening of new schools and the rehabilitation of existing ones, particularly those selected to host new vocational training programs," he said.

He also expressed satisfaction with the progress made over the past three years, citing significant improvements in both infrastructure and the quality of education in the Technical Education, Professional Training, and Apprenticeship sectors.

N'Guessan Koffi also praised the achievements of 2024, which include the adoption of Decree No. 2024-829 of September 18, 2024, which introduced the Certificate of Qualification for Trades (CQM), recognizing and formalizing skills and knowledge acquired through traditional apprenticeships. Other milestones include the modernization of 10 training programs using the Competency-Based Approach (CBA) to meet international standards, the introduction of mandatory internships for all professional training programs, the placement of about 30,000 trainees in companies, and the training of 784 administrative and teaching staff, including 137 trained abroad.

The certification of 1,500 workers through the Validation of Prior Experience (VAE) and the opening of a training center in Refrigeration and Air Conditioning in partnership with DAIKIN, where 72 trainees were trained in 2024, were also highlighted as key achievements.
