Social Safety Nets: Myss Belmonde Dogo Launches First Monetary Transfers to Relocated Households

Myss Belmonde Dogo, Minister of National Cohesion, Solidarity, and the Fight Against Poverty, launched the first monetary transfers to relocated households in the communes of Yopougon and Attécoubé on Tuesday, January 28, 2025, at Yopougon Town Hall. The ceremony was attended by prominent figures, including the President of the National Assembly (PAN), and also Mayor of Yopougon, Adama Bictogo.

This initiative aligns with the vision of a "Solidarity-based Côte d'Ivoire," under which President Alassane Ouattara has decided to expand the list of 230,000 beneficiaries of the Social Safety Nets Program by adding 1,500 new households displaced by evictions in certain neighborhoods of the Autonomous District of Abidjan.

“By including you in the Social Safety Nets Program, the Government is aware and confident that this is a solution that can help you,” stated Myss Belmonde Dogo. She further explained that in addition to quarterly transfers, the Government will provide training on essential family practices and support for productivity.

“My sincere thanks to the Head of State and Minister Belmonde Dogo for choosing Yopougon to improve the living conditions of our displaced citizens,” expressed Adama Bictogo.

Plunged into despair during the eviction operations for the urban development of Abidjan, Guéhi Anne has found a glimmer of hope—and a second chance—thanks to this government initiative. "Being part of the Social Safety Nets Program is more than just financial aid. It’s a capacity-building effort that allows us to rebuild ourselves and live with dignity despite the hardships we've faced," she shared, also expressing the displaced beneficiaries' gratitude to the President of the Republic for integrating them into this poverty reduction program.

Out of the 1,500 households, 470 have already received their first quarterly payment of 36,000 FCFA for a period of 3 years. Another 1,030 households will be added in the first quarter of 2025. Nearly 600 million FCFA will be distributed to all 1,500 targeted households.
