Charles Konan Banny, born on November 11, 1942, in Divo, Côte d'Ivoire, and passed away on September 10, 2021, in Neuilly-sur-Seine, France, was an Ivorian economist and statesman. He notably served as Prime Minister from 2005 to 2007.
Born into the Banny family as the son of François Konan Banny (father) and the younger brother of Intendant General François Konan Banny and Jean Konan Banny, as well as the half-brother of former special adviser to the Prime Minister, Firmin Brou.
In 1968, he graduated from the Higher School of Economic and Commercial Sciences (ESSEC). Charles started his career in 1969 and secured a position as a mission officer at the Stabilization Fund for the Support of Agricultural Commodity Prices (Caistab), a solidarity and support fund in the Ivorian agricultural sector. In 1970, Konan Banny joined the Inter-African Coffee Organization (OIAC), where he became Deputy Secretary-General and later Secretary-General.
