The march organized by the opposition’s Common Front, made up of the PPA-CI and the PDCI, ended with several arrests on Saturday, October 11, 2025, in Abidjan. Despite an official ban issued by the Prefect of Abidjan, supporters of the two political parties attempted to defy the order, prompting intervention by the security forces.
Speaking to the press, the Minister of the Interior and Security, General Diomandé Vagondo, provided an initial update on the situation. As of 11:30 a.m., a total of 237 individuals had been detained, including women and young people.
“Unfortunately, some completely irresponsible youths were sent into the streets to erect barricades,” lamented the minister.
Reported incidents were confined to Blokosso and Angré (Château area) — two neighborhoods of Abidjan — while the rest of the national territory remained calm.
“Security forces were deployed to ensure that all citizens could go about their daily activities and that national life continued normally,” emphasized Minister Vagondo, commending the professionalism of the security units involved.
The minister further recalled that the demonstration violated Article 138 of the Constitution, which strictly regulates public gatherings.
“Those arrested for participating in an unauthorized protest will face legal consequences,” he warned.
Finally, Minister Vagondo praised the sense of responsibility shown by the majority of young people and called on all citizens to safeguard Côte d’Ivoire’s image as a stable, admired, and exemplary nation.
“Our country has become a model many aspire to emulate. It is our collective duty to protect it from disorder,” he concluded.
