Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation praises Ivorian education progress

Following a meeting with the Minister of National Education and Literacy, Mariatou Koné, the Program Officer of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, Clio Dintilhac, praised her leadership and the progress achieved by Côte d’Ivoire’s education system since the implementation of the reforms stemming from the National Education and Literacy General Assembly (EGENA).

Among these reforms is the National Program for Support to Early School Learning (PNAPAS). This program aims to improve students’ performance in reading, writing and mathematics. Its impact is tangible, and results are becoming increasingly visible.

The representative of the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation highlighted its importance, stating: “The PNAPAS reform is very important. It implements structured pedagogy, an innovative approach, focusing on learning in reading and mathematics, as well as innovative remediation methods.”

She further expressed the Foundation’s satisfaction with the improvement in students’ learning outcomes: “This reform is ongoing, and there are very promising results in reading and mathematics.”

Structured pedagogy, at the heart of PNAPAS, introduces more rigorous, progressive and adapted methods, aimed at providing students with solid foundations essential for their academic success.

The implementation of the transformative levers of the EGENA recommendations seeks to make education a pool of excellence in the service of national development.
