Côte d'Ivoire is intensifying its efforts in response to the growing threat of cybercrime. Recognizing the importance of safeguarding citizens' personal data, the country recently organized a training workshop for public administration officials, aimed at enhancing their skills in digital security. This initiative marks a significant step toward securing sensitive information and promoting confidence in the digital sphere.
On October 31, 2024, the workshop titled "Cybercrime and Personal Data Protection: Contribution to Investigations and Scope of the Data Protection Law" took place in Abidjan-Plateau. Over a hundred officials from public institutions, including representatives from IT, Human Resources, and Legal Affairs departments, attended the event. Organized by the Directorate of Cybersecurity and Digital Trust (DCCN), this training aims to strengthen the capacities of public officials to better protect personal information in the face of rising cybercrime.
The sessions were led by Assoua Cauffi Sylvère, Head of the Compliance and Rights Protection Department at the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority of Côte d'Ivoire (ARTCI), and Dougba Marcelin, Commissioner at the Cybercrime Combatting Platform (PLCC). The experts presented the legal framework and best practices for data protection and cybercrime investigation. These discussions allowed participants to gain a better understanding of current laws and the procedures to follow to ensure the security of public information systems.
This workshop is part of a broader program led by the Ministry of Digital Transition and Digitalization, aimed at securing public IT systems and protecting citizens' rights in the digital space. Elie Konan, Director of the DCCN, highlighted the importance of training public agents to ensure compliance with data protection standards.
By enhancing the skills of public administration officials, Côte d'Ivoire continues to lay the foundations for a secure digital environment, ensuring both personal data protection and effective cybercrime prevention. As the country advances in its digital transition, these efforts are crucial in building a future where privacy is respected, and cybersecurity is guaranteed for all Ivorians.
These initiatives reflect Côte d'Ivoire's growing commitment to making cybersecurity a national priority, thus protecting citizens and fostering trust in digital services.
