Côte d'Ivoire launches vaccination campaign for 7 million children against measles and rubella

The Ministry of Health, Public Hygiene, and Universal Health Coverage, in collaboration with technical and financial partners, is organizing a nationwide vaccination campaign against measles and rubella from October 18 to 24, 2024. This campaign will target children aged 9 months to 59 months.

The official launch of the vaccination campaign will take place on October 16, 2024, at the ADO square in the Bardo neighborhood, within the San-Pedro health district. Both measles and rubella are highly contagious diseases that can lead to severe complications such as blindness, deafness, and neurological damage, while rubella poses risks of fetal death or congenital malformations.

The ministry, led by Pierre Dimba, aims to vaccinate approximately 7 million children under 5 years old, reinforcing the country's efforts to eliminate these diseases.

In 2001, Côte d'Ivoire joined the global initiative to eradicate measles, successfully vaccinating 5.9 million children aged 9 months to 5 years, achieving a coverage rate of 95.51%.
