Côte d'Ivoire: Grand-Bassam Steps Up in Cancer Fight

On June 3, 2025, Côte d'Ivoire marked a significant milestone in its healthcare development with the announcement that 90% of the structural work on the Centre National de Radiothérapie, de Radiologie et d’Oncologie Médicale (CNROM) in Grand-Bassam has been completed. This progress was confirmed during an inspection visit by the Minister of Health, Pierre N’gou Dimba, who praised the rapid advancement of the project, describing it as a pivotal addition to the nation's healthcare infrastructure.

Situated on a five-hectare site, the CNROM is poised to become a leading facility in cancer treatment within the West African region. The center will offer comprehensive oncology services, including radiotherapy, chemotherapy, advanced medical imaging, and supportive care, all consolidated in a single location. Equipped with state-of-the-art technology, the facility will feature multiple radiotherapy bunkers, MRI and CT scanners, and specialized units for bone marrow transplants, aiming to provide holistic care to patients.

With a capacity of 200 beds, the CNROM is designed to enhance access to specialized oncology services, particularly for residents in the southern regions of Côte d'Ivoire. The center is expected to alleviate the burden on existing facilities and reduce the need for patients to seek treatment abroad. The official inauguration of the CNROM is anticipated later in 2025, marking a significant step forward in the nation's commitment to improving cancer care and healthcare services overall.

This development underscores Côte d'Ivoire's dedication to strengthening its healthcare system and addressing the growing need for specialized medical services in the region.
