Abidjan, February 18, 2026 – The Minister of Transport and Maritime Affairs, Amadou Koné, and the Minister of Interior and Security, Vagondo Diomandé, held a meeting on Wednesday to refine joint strategies aimed at strengthening road safety.
According to Minister Amadou Koné, there has been a rise in road accidents during the first 45 days of the year, with an average of four deaths per day. He stated that the President of the Republic has instructed the government to make road safety a top priority and to implement immediate measures without leniency.
The meeting forms part of the implementation of the National Road Safety Strategy, which seeks to significantly reduce traffic accidents. Minister Koné emphasized that road safety is a cross-cutting issue requiring the active involvement of all stakeholders, particularly the Ministry of Security.
For his part, Minister Vagondo Diomandé reaffirmed his ministry’s full commitment to combating road accidents. He announced that police checks have already begun and that a zero-tolerance approach will be enforced to protect lives.
In 2025, Côte d’Ivoire recorded 1,300 deaths resulting from road accidents.
