Côte d’Ivoire and Benin strengthen judicial cooperation through landmark agreement

The Court of Cassation of Côte d’Ivoire and the Supreme Court of Benin have reinforced their institutional relations with the signing of a twinning and judicial cooperation agreement on Wednesday, June 24, 2026, in Abidjan-Cocody.

The agreement was signed by the President of the Court of Cassation of Côte d’Ivoire, Joachim Yua Koffi, and his Beninese counterpart, Victor Adossou, in the presence of several senior judicial officials, including the President of the Council of State, Ibrahim Kuibiert Coulibaly, and the Prosecutor General at the Court of Cassation and Council of State, Aly Yéo, as well as a delegation from the Supreme Court of Benin, magistrates, and court clerks.

This convention is part of a broader effort by the Ivorian Court of Cassation to strengthen regional judicial cooperation with supreme courts across Africa. It reflects the shared commitment of both institutions to deepen their relations and promote a more efficient justice system in the service of citizens.

The signing of this agreement marks a major step in reinforcing historical and professional ties between the two highest judicial bodies. It also highlights their joint commitment to the rule of law, legal security, and judicial integration in West Africa.

According to Presidents Joachim Yua Koffi and Victor Adossou, the agreement aims to promote the exchange of experience, strengthen institutional capacities, share judicial best practices, and develop joint initiatives to support a modern, efficient, and accessible justice system.

Comprising a preamble and 11 articles, the document was jointly drafted by the international cooperation departments of both judicial institutions.

The ceremony concluded in a cordial atmosphere, marked by the exchange of symbolic gifts between the two presidents.

It should be recalled that on Monday, June 15, a judicial cooperation agreement was also signed between the Court of Cassation of Côte d’Ivoire and the Court of Justice of the West African Economic and Monetary Union (WAEMU).
