Côte d’Ivoire and Ghana are stepping up coordination within their joint cocoa strategy ahead of a key regional meeting aimed at strengthening cooperation and improving the sustainability of the sector, authorities said on Wednesday.
The Minister of Agriculture, Rural Development and Food Production, Bruno Nabagné Koné, received Ghana’s Ambassador to Côte d’Ivoire, Brigadier General Alhassan Abu, during an audience held on June 3 in Abidjan.
Discussions focused on preparations for the 7th ordinary meeting of the Steering Committee of the Côte d’Ivoire–Ghana Cocoa Initiative (ICCIG), scheduled to take place in Abidjan on June 15–16.
The Ivorian minister assured the Ghanaian delegation of Côte d’Ivoire’s full commitment to hosting the upcoming meeting under optimal conditions, highlighting the importance of continued bilateral coordination.
Established to strengthen agricultural cooperation between the two leading cocoa-producing countries, the ICCIG works to promote research, sustainability, and resilience in the cocoa value chain. The initiative aims to improve the long-term value of cocoa production while ensuring better and more stable incomes for farmers in both countries.
The upcoming meeting is expected to further align strategies between Abidjan and Accra as they seek to address global market challenges and reinforce their joint influence in the cocoa industry.
