Côte d’Ivoire launches construction of 1,520 affordable homes in Bouaké

Ivorian Prime Minister Robert Beugré Mambé on Friday launched construction of 1,520 social and affordable housing units in Bouaké, as the government pushes ahead with an emergency programme to build 25,000 homes across the country.

The project, financed by the West African Development Bank (BOAD) with more than 40 billion CFA francs ($70 million), will comprise 76 residential buildings offering three- and four-room apartments.

The development is part of the government’s efforts to improve access to decent housing, particularly for households seeking more affordable accommodation.

During the launch ceremony, Beugré Mambé urged the companies responsible for the construction work to comply with required standards to ensure that the homes meet acceptable quality requirements.

The development is also expected to include community facilities such as schools, a health centre, sports areas and green spaces, according to information released by the government.

The construction project comes amid continued efforts by Ivorian authorities to address housing needs as the country’s urban population grows. The government has made social and affordable housing a priority under its broader development agenda.

Further details on the allocation of the apartments, eligibility criteria and delivery schedule will be important for prospective beneficiaries as construction progresses.
