Côte d’Ivoire Launches Labor Market Information System to Better Align Skills and Employment
Côte d’Ivoire has officially launched its Labor Market Information System (LMIS), known locally as the Système d’Information sur le Marché du Travail (SIMT), in a move aimed at improving the match between workforce skills and labor market needs.
Prime Minister Robert Beugré Mambé inaugurated the platform on Tuesday in Abidjan, describing it as a strategic tool that will strengthen employment planning and support evidence-based policymaking.
“The SIMT will give us the capacity to identify occupations, detect emerging sectors, anticipate future needs, and measure more accurately the impact of public policies,” the Prime Minister said during the launch ceremony. “In other words, it will allow us to move from a logic of reaction to a logic of anticipation.”
The new system is designed to collect, analyze, and disseminate labor market data, providing government institutions, employers, training centers, and job seekers with reliable information on employment trends and workforce demand.
Authorities say the platform will help improve the alignment between education and vocational training programs and the evolving needs of the economy. It is also expected to support decision-making in areas such as skills development, youth employment, and workforce planning.
The launch comes as Côte d’Ivoire continues to pursue economic transformation and industrialization policies that require a workforce equipped with relevant and future-oriented skills.
With the implementation of the SIMT, Côte d’Ivoire joins a growing group of African countries that have adopted modern and integrated labor market information systems to strengthen employment governance and improve labor market efficiency.
Government officials believe the initiative will contribute to reducing skills mismatches, improving employability, and enhancing the country's ability to respond to changing economic conditions and emerging industries.
