Côte d’Ivoire ranks first in West Africa on gender equality index

Côte d’Ivoire has been ranked first in West Africa on gender equality, with a score of 0.708, according to data released by the Ministry of Women, Family and Children and regional reports within the ECOWAS framework.

The ranking places the country above the regional average, estimated at around 0.64, highlighting continued progress in policies aimed at promoting women’s empowerment.

According to authorities, this performance reflects a series of reforms implemented in recent years in key areas such as education, employment, access to resources, and women’s participation in decision-making processes.

The index takes into account several indicators, including health, education, economic inclusion, access to technology, and women’s representation in governance structures.

Despite leading the region, officials acknowledge that gaps remain and further efforts are needed to achieve full gender equality.
