Côte d’Ivoire has launched a workshop aimed at improving transparency and accountability in public administration through clearer definitions of government employees’ roles and responsibilities.
The two-day meeting, which opened on Monday, October 19, 2026, in Jacqueville, brings together the High Authority for Good Governance (HABG) and the Ministry of Public Service and Administrative Modernisation.
The workshop focuses on developing and using job descriptions, documents that specify an employee’s duties, responsibilities, required skills and expected performance.
Organisers say the initiative is intended to strengthen human resources management, improve administrative efficiency and support efforts to prevent corruption.
The meeting brings together 45 participants, including human resources directors, heads of administrative units and members of the project’s technical team. Discussions include reviewing and validating the job description for the director of human resources.
Clearly defined responsibilities can help public institutions identify who is accountable for specific tasks, improve performance monitoring and reduce ambiguity in administrative procedures.
The initiative forms part of Côte d’Ivoire’s National Anti-Corruption Strategy for 2024–2028, which is led by the HABG. The strategy seeks to strengthen integrity and transparency in public institutions.
A similar workshop was held in December 2025 to validate job descriptions for two ministries, reflecting ongoing efforts to incorporate clearer professional standards into public administration.
The latest initiative represents a preventive approach to tackling corruption by strengthening administrative procedures and clarifying responsibilities. However, the workshop’s opening does not in itself demonstrate a measurable reduction in corruption, and its impact will depend on how the proposed measures are implemented across government institutions.
