The Road Safety Office (OSER) in Côte d’Ivoire has officially received a 52-seater bus in Abidjan on Wednesday, June 24, 2026, aimed at enhancing practical training for professional drivers.
The vehicle will be used to improve hands-on training and road safety awareness, addressing gaps identified in the driving skills of heavy vehicle operators.
According to OSER Director Étienne Kouakou, the new equipment is designed to strengthen practical instruction and improve the overall competence of professional drivers, contributing to safer road transport across the country.
Representing the Minister of Transport, Dr Ambroise Mousso, who also chairs OSER’s management board, described the bus as a strategic and educational tool that will help improve driver training standards and ultimately enhance road safety in Côte d’Ivoire.
He also noted that between May and November 2024, 316 professional drivers benefited from advanced training programmes, exceeding the initial target of 304 participants.
The initiative was supported by Scania, which donated the bus as part of its commitment to capacity building and sustainable road safety development in the country.
Scania Managing Director Michaël Berthelot stated that the gesture goes beyond equipment provision, emphasizing a shared commitment to long-term skills development and strong institutional partnerships.
Officials from the Urban Mobility Authority of Greater Abidjan (AMUGA) welcomed the initiative, highlighting its role in modernizing the transport sector and reducing road accidents in the country.
The project reflects ongoing efforts by Côte d’Ivoire to improve transport safety standards, strengthen professional training systems, and modernize its road infrastructure ecosystem.
