Climate Finance: Minister Abou Bamba Receives Delegation from the Green Climate Fund

The Minister of Environment and Ecological Transition, Abou Bamba, received on Thursday, April 16, 2026, at his office in the Plateau district, a delegation from the Green Climate Fund (GCF), led by its Regional Director for Africa, Ms. Catherine Koffman.

The meeting took place in the context of Côte d’Ivoire’s designation to host the GCF regional headquarters covering West, Central, and North Africa. This strategic choice reinforces the country’s position as a key actor in climate diplomacy and green finance on the continent.

Discussions focused on the practical arrangements for the establishment and operationalization of the fund in Côte d’Ivoire, as well as funding prospects for priority sectors, including renewable energy, sustainable land management, climate-resilient agriculture, coastal erosion control, and gender inclusion in climate policies.

For Minister Abou Bamba, this designation represents more than an institutional achievement. It opens the door to significant economic and environmental benefits while strengthening the country’s role in coordinating regional climate action.

He reaffirmed Côte d’Ivoire’s commitment to this leadership role, both in discussions and in implementing concrete solutions to climate challenges. He also highlighted the importance of this dynamic in achieving national greenhouse gas emission reduction targets set at 33.07% under the Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs).
