The number of interventions by the Military Firefighters Group (GSPM) reached 40,000 in 2025, compared to 13,000 in 2014 — a 200% increase over the past decade. This information was provided by the Head of the Operations Bureau of the GSPM, Lieutenant Colonel Bony Nimba Landry Stéphane.
He made this statement during “Tout Savoir Sur” (TSS), a weekly discussion platform organized by the Government Information and Communication Center (CICG), on Tuesday, June 10, 2025, in Abidjan.
“Every day, fires, floods, industrial accidents, and health crises threaten our population. In the face of these challenges, the GSPM, through its mission and commitment, stands as a key player in the effective management of risks and the protection of lives and property,” he emphasized.
According to him, the GSPM carries out an average of 110 interventions per day — that’s one every 13 minutes. As for the nature of these interventions, road traffic accidents account for the largest share (47%), followed by medical evacuations (13%) and fires (11%).
He also noted that with a staff of 1,413 men and women, the GSPM is fully equipped to handle all types of threats faced by citizens.
Furthermore, the GSPM operates a fleet of over 300 vehicles, including rescue vehicles for individuals, fire engines, aerial ladders, rapid-response motorcycles, rescue boats, road rescue equipment, drones, and a fire extinguishing robot.
To better serve the public, the GSPM typically operates 10 emergency posts, increasing to 14 during festive periods to enhance its effectiveness.
Established in 1974 as a military unit, the GSPM has aligned itself with international intervention standards thanks to its professionalism, innovations, and the integration of emerging technologies in its operational management processes.
