Expansion of the CMU Healthcare Package: Hypertension and Diabetes Now Covered

Hypertension and diabetes are now included in the healthcare package of the Universal Health Coverage scheme (CMU). This major development allows insured individuals suffering from these conditions, in their simple form, to access necessary treatments in public hospitals and approved pharmacies.

People enrolled in the CMU will only pay 30% of the cost of medical services and medications.

The CMU’s healthcare package already includes a wide range of services, such as laboratory tests, medical imaging, hospitalization, dental care, and access to more than 6,000 medications.

The implementation and gradual expansion of the CMU continue to strengthen access to healthcare for millions of Ivorians.

“CMU really makes life easier for us. For consultations, treatment, or even medication, I spend much less,” says Mabintou Koné, a patient met at the Bondoukou Regional Public Hospital (EPHR).

Furthermore, the exceptional measure “CMU Zero Contribution,” initially scheduled from May 1 to August 31, 2025, has been extended until December 31, 2025. It aims to facilitate population enrollment, particularly in the informal sector, by temporarily removing the requirement to pay contributions.

With this extension, the State aims to reach 24 million enrolled individuals by the end of 2025, reaffirming its commitment to strengthening equity and healthcare coverage across the entire country.
