Global Forum on Poverty Reduction: China Pledges Support to Côte d’Ivoire in Anti-Poverty Efforts

Côte d’Ivoire has strengthened its cooperation with China in the fight against poverty during the Global Forum on Poverty Reduction and Development held in Beijing, where Chinese authorities expressed readiness to support Ivorian efforts, particularly in agriculture and rice production.

The Ivorian delegation was led by Myss Belmonde Dogo, Minister of National Cohesion, Solidarity and the Fight against Poverty, whose participation helped reinforce bilateral cooperation between the two countries.

During the forum, Liu Guozhong, Vice President of China, highlighted China’s experience in poverty eradication, noting that the country officially eliminated extreme poverty in 2020 and is now focused on preserving its gains and preventing a return to vulnerability.

Zhang Zhu, China’s Minister of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, stressed the importance of shared strategies in global poverty reduction, emphasizing experience-sharing and adaptation to local cultural and social contexts.

The meeting brought together around 50 countries and organizations, and concluded with the adoption of the GPPAD Charter as an alliance. China was elected Chair of the steering committee, while Côte d’Ivoire became First Vice-Chair among the 53 member countries and nine international organizations.

Participants also adopted the 2026–2028 three-year action plan for the organization.

Côte d’Ivoire’s participation follows a high-level global development dialogue initiated by the President of the People’s Republic of China in June 2022, which led to the establishment of a global partnership for poverty reduction involving nearly 20 countries.
