Food Security: Government Launches Programs to Boost Farmers’ Production

In several regions of Côte d'Ivoire, vegetable farmers are receiving material support to enhance their production and strengthen the country's food security. These assistance programs aim to boost output and improve living conditions for local farmers.

In Dopiankaha, located in the Poro region, members of the "Binkéléma" group, consisting of about sixty women, have been provided with over 6 hectares' worth of farming inputs, including seeds, fertilizers, and agricultural tools. Specializing in onion cultivation, these women are now able to increase their production.

“We are thrilled to receive all this equipment. We really needed it. With the money from our harvests, we will be able to expand our fields and take better care of our families,” said Fatoumata Koné, president of the cooperative.

In Balakro, in the Bélier region, the Association of Vegetable Farmers received 8 hectares’ worth of farming kits and tools for growing eggplants, peppers, and tomatoes.

“The government gave us everything we need for full production. On the market, farming inputs are expensive. Receiving them for free is a huge relief,” said Ben Soumahoro, president of the association.

In just one year, these support programs have already started yielding results. From 2023 to the first half of 2024, a total of 12,000 tons of vegetables were produced under the Government’s Social Program Support Project (PaPsgouv) across Côte d'Ivoire.
