The Minister of Trade, Industry and Handicrafts, Ibrahim Kalil Konaté, has reassured the Ivorian population that essential consumer goods, particularly rice and sugar, are available in sufficient quantities to meet demand for several months.
He made this assurance on Monday, February 16, 2026, following a field visit to monitor the availability and prices of these products ahead of Ramadan and the Christian Lent season, periods typically marked by high market demand.
“The Ivorian people can be confident that essential consumer goods are available. We have enough rice stocks for the next six months and sugar for at least three months,” the minister said, adding that “markets are supplied on a daily basis.”
The monitoring mission, aimed at ensuring adequate supply and compliance with government measures to combat high living costs, took the minister to several warehouses and supermarkets, including Vridi Tripostal, the Port of Abidjan, and Treichville.
The minister also commended the teams from the Ministry of Trade for working tirelessly to ensure government policies are enforced, including price caps, price displays, and maintaining sufficient stock levels in the markets.
During the visit, Minister Konaté also went to the Koumassi industrial zone to meet with business operators about planned investments.
Praising the professionalism of the companies visited, he assured them of government support: “I have heard about an investment of 30 billion CFA francs. This will create jobs, and we will provide full support for it.”
