Ahead of the legislative elections scheduled for December 27, 2025, the Ministry of State, Ministry of Public Service and Administrative Modernization has announced, in a press release dated October 29, 2025, the opening of a dedicated desk to receive leave-of-absence requests from civil servants wishing to run for office.
According to the document signed by the Chief of Staff, Mr. Natsiré Kaba, this special desk has been set up in the main lobby of the ministry's headquarters in Plateau. Its purpose is to streamline and regulate administrative procedures for public officials seeking to stand as candidates, whether as principal candidates or substitutes, in the upcoming legislative elections.
Civil servants concerned must submit a file that includes a handwritten request addressed to the Minister of State, Minister of Public Service and Administrative Modernization, the most recent appointment or promotion decree, and a photocopy of their National Identity Card. The statement also clarifies that the leave of absence will only become effective if the civil servant is elected, in accordance with the legal provisions in force. This measure ensures the continuity of public services while enabling state employees to exercise their civic rights within a regulated framework.
By establishing this special desk, the ministry aims to guarantee transparency and efficiency in processing requests, while reaffirming its commitment to upholding the laws governing the political participation of civil servants in national public life.
