Minister Assahoré Konan Urges Regional High-Risk Safety Model

On Monday, October 7, 2024, in Abidjan-Plateau, Ivorian Minister of Environment, Sustainable Development, and Ecological Transition, Jacques Assahoré Konan, urged member states of the African Atlantic Facade to set a benchmark for the safety of high-risk industrial installations (IHR) and the transportation of dangerous goods (TMD) under the P95 SAFETIC Project. Representing Prime Minister Robert Beugré Mambé, he made this appeal during a regional workshop aimed at strengthening national capacities for responding to chemical accidents within IHRs or during TMD.

This seminar, organized by Expertise France in collaboration with the National Risk Reduction and Disaster Management Platform, falls under the EU's initiative to mitigate nuclear, radiological, biological, and chemical (NRBC) risks. Minister Assahoré called on participants to explore innovative and coordinated solutions for more effective industrial risk management.

Francesca Di Mauro, EU Ambassador to Côte d'Ivoire, highlighted the social importance of the project's themes and reaffirmed the EU’s support for African Atlantic Facade member states. The P95 SAFETIC Project, with a budget of €3.5 million, is being implemented in countries including Côte d'Ivoire, Benin, Cameroon, Gabon, Liberia, Morocco, Mauritania, Sierra Leone, Senegal, and Togo.
