PARU Sanitation and Drainage Projects: Minister Amédé Kouakou Koffi Satisfied with Progress of Works

The Minister of Hydraulics, Sanitation and Public Health, Amédé Kouakou Koffi, carried out a field visit on Thursday, March 26, 2026, in Abidjan to inspect ongoing infrastructure under the Projet d’assainissement et de résilience urbaine (PARU).

The project aims to improve stormwater management in order to reduce flooding risks and related health hazards.

“We came with our teams to visit the various construction sites currently underway under PARU. As we are at the end of March and the rainy season is approaching, the works are progressing well. The objective is to prevent flooding and save lives,” the Minister stated.

The visit focused on key drainage infrastructure projects in the Riviera-Bonoumin area in Cocody, as well as the sanitation and drainage project in Yopougon-Maroc, which has reached a completion rate of 90%.

Works carried out include the construction of drainage systems to ensure better channeling of rainwater, along with cleaning operations such as sand removal and desilting.

Minister Amédé Kouakou Koffi also urged local populations to avoid discharging wastewater into drainage systems, warning that such practices contribute to lagoon pollution.

For his part, PARU Coordinator Lazéni Ouattara highlighted the efforts undertaken to address sanitation challenges, public cleanliness, and recurrent flooding in highly exposed areas such as Abobo, Grand-Bassam, Yopougon, and Cocody.
