To address the need for training and improve the effectiveness of School Dropout Prevention and Support Units (CPLDS), the Ministry of National Education and Literacy, through the Directorate of Guidance and Scholarships (DOB), organized a capacity-building session on Monday, November 3, 2025, in Abidjan. The training focused on holistic support for students at risk of dropping out of school.
Opening the session, the Director of Guidance and Scholarships, Ségali Stéphane Yéwé, noted that despite the government’s continuous efforts, school dropout remains one of the major challenges facing the education system. This is why the ministry established the CPLDS, whose main mission is to detect early signs of school dropout.
According to him, this initiative reflects the government’s strong commitment to making the fight against school dropout a national priority, in order to build a quality education system — a transformative lever for sustainable development in Côte d’Ivoire.
Ségali Stéphane Yéwé emphasized that this meeting, which brings together Regional Education Directorates of Abidjan 1, 2, 3, and 4, serves as a platform for exchange and aims to equip CPLDS members with the tools and methods necessary to conduct more efficient actions against this issue.
It should be noted that in 2022–2023, these units identified 9,759 potential school dropouts, 3,249 of whom received support. Following this monitoring, 2,827 students were successfully retained in the education system — representing a retention rate of 87.01%.
