Urban Mobility: Robert Beugré Mambé Extends SOTRA Bus Lines to Songon

On October 17, 2024, Robert Beugré Mambé, the Prime Minister and Minister of Sports and Living Environment, inaugurated the extension of the Société des Transports Abidjanais (SOTRA) bus lines to Songon, a rapidly growing municipality on the outskirts of Abidjan.

This initiative is part of the Government's Social Program (PS-Gouv 2021), which aims to improve urban mobility in Greater Abidjan and other regions across the country. The expansion of the SOTRA network is intended to ease transportation challenges for the residents of Songon, a community experiencing significant population growth.

"This SOTRA extension aligns with the President of the Republic’s vision to provide the best services to Ivorians, no matter where they are located," said Prime Minister Mambé during the ceremony. He also praised SOTRA for its efforts, stating, "I would like to commend SOTRA’s leadership for their tremendous work in ensuring that the population has access to top-notch transportation."

Bouaké Méité, SOTRA’s General Director, expressed his pride in being part of the event and emphasized the company's dedication to expanding and improving urban transport.

Two new bus lines have been created to serve the Songon area. The first, Urban Line 062, will connect Terminus EPP M’Braté (Songon) to Terminus Gesco for a fare of 200 CFA francs. The second, Shuttle Line 725, will link Terminus EPP M’Braté Gare to Terminus Siporex Marché d’Attiéké for 500 CFA francs.

The launch event was marked by a ribbon-cutting ceremony, followed by a bus tour of the new routes with Prime Minister Mambé and other officials in attendance.

This extension is expected to improve daily commuting for Songon residents and enhance their access to other parts of Abidjan, reinforcing the government's commitment to fostering better living conditions and transportation infrastructure for all citizens.
