The city of Bouaké hosted, on Friday, April 17, 2026, the celebrations marking the 36th World Civil Protection Day (WCPD-36).
Held under the theme “Managing environmental risks for a resilient and sustainable future,” the event was presided over by the Minister of Interior and Security, General Vagondo Diomandé.
The Minister of Transport and Maritime Affairs, Amadou Koné, who also serves as the Mayor of Bouaké and sponsor of the ceremony, praised the vision of the Head of State, Alassane Ouattara, which places the protection of people, property, and the environment at the heart of national priorities.
He went on to thank Minister Vagondo Diomandé for his efforts, as well as for selecting the city of Bouaké to host this major event.
“On behalf of the Municipality of Bouaké, I reaffirm my full commitment to supporting all initiatives aimed at strengthening civil protection and promoting sustainable development,” he concluded.
Minister Vagondo Diomandé, after paying tribute to his colleague Amadou Koné, commended him for his initiatives aimed at improving security in Bouaké. He then encouraged all civil protection stakeholders, particularly military and civilian firefighters, to continue carrying out their mission with professionalism alongside other local security forces.
Following the speeches, a visit to exhibition stands and a panel discussion on the theme of the day were among the highlights of the ceremony.
In Côte d’Ivoire, the Office National de la Protection Civile is the public body responsible for implementing the government’s civil protection policy. To date, its operational deployment includes 45 Civil Protection Centers and 8 fire and rescue companies across the national territory.
