Law enforcement officers shot and killed an armed man in his twenties on Sunday after he unlawfully entered the residence of the President of the United States.
An armed individual who illegally entered the Florida residence of Donald Trump was shot and killed by law enforcement, a spokesperson for the United States Secret Service, the agency responsible for protecting senior American political figures, announced Sunday, according to AFP.
President Trump was in the capital, Washington, D.C., at the time of the incident.
“An armed man was shot after unlawfully entering the secured perimeter of Mar-a-Lago early this morning,” said Anthony Guglielmi, spokesperson for the Secret Service, in a post on X.
“At approximately 1:30 a.m. Sunday, a man in his twenties was observed near the north entrance of the Mar-a-Lago property carrying what appeared to be a rifle and a gasoline can,” he added.
Law enforcement officers confronted the individual and fired multiple shots. No agents were injured during the incident. Authorities are expected to hold a press conference shortly to provide further details.
