Minister Mamadou Touré Visits Souafouè Djanhan Proximity College to Support Youth Development

As part of a regional tour in Gbêkê from October 23 to 26, 2024, Minister of Youth Promotion, Professional Integration, and Civic Service, Mamadou Touré, visited the Souafouè Djanhan Proximity College, a modern institution located 18 km from Sakassou(city in central Côte d'Ivoire). Accompanied by Emmanuel Ahoutou Koffi, Director of Cabinet for the Vice President of Côte d'Ivoire and Sakassou native, the visit underscored the government’s commitment to enhancing education and opportunities for Ivorian youth.

Minister Touré emphasized that building this college aligns with the "Year of Youth," declared by President Alassane Ouattara in 2023. "Through the Government Youth Program (Pj-Gouv), 21 ministries, including major contributors like the Ministry of National Education, are addressing youth needs. In 2023 alone, 42 proximity colleges were constructed across the country, including this state-of-the-art college in Sakassou," he noted. This initiative aims to meet local educational infrastructure needs and support youth development.

In response to school dropout issues among young girls and boys, Minister Touré tasked the Youth Employment Agency (AEJ) and National Civic Service Office (OSCN) with establishing income-generating activities (AGR) to assist young girls in the village. Additionally, they will be included in civic service training programs such as "Girl Power" and SCAD (Civic Service for Action and Development).

Inaugurated on December 8, 2023, Souafouè Djanhan College spans 4 hectares and includes an administrative block, four blocks of classrooms with educator offices, science and history-geography labs, a common room, a library, a clinic, multi-sport facilities, and an IT lab. This architectural accomplishment highlights Côte d'Ivoire's dedication to youth and education.
