Official Start of Construction for the First National Data Center

On Thursday, May 16, 2024, Minister Ibrahim Kalil Konate visited the construction site of Côte d'Ivoire's very first National Data Center. This visit was attended by the U.S. Ambassador to Côte d'Ivoire, H.E. Jessica Davis Ba, as well as representatives from the Cybastion consortium and its local partner, Porteo BTP.

The Minister highlighted the critical importance of this milestone for the country's digital sovereignty. This Data Center will be a fundamental pillar of our digital transformation, enabling the creation and hosting of local content. “We are determined to move forward with our partners to make this project a success and ensure our digital independence,” stated Minister Konate.

Cybastion's Director of Infrastructure, Mr. Mboudi Golê Georges, emphasized the importance of having local control over our data. “Relying on external sources for our digital needs is a weakness. This Data Center will help us avoid interruptions due to submarine cable cuts and ensure continuous access to our data.”

To recall, the foundation stone for this state-of-the-art Tier 3 infrastructure, a partnership between Côte d'Ivoire and the United States, was laid on December 14, 2023. The project represents an investment of 36 billion CFA francs and has an estimated construction period of 24 months.
