Prime Minister Robert Beugré Mambé officially inaugurated the Atinkou thermal power plant, located in Jacqueville, on Friday, November 6, 2026. The ceremony brought together several government officials, including the Minister of Mines, Petroleum and Energy, Mamadou Sangafowa-Coulibaly, energy sector stakeholders, technical and financial partners, and residents of Jacqueville.
With a capacity of more than 390 MW, this infrastructure will strengthen the country's electricity generation capacity and consolidate Côte d’Ivoire’s position as a regional energy hub.
Built at a total investment cost of 265 billion CFA francs, the power plant operates on natural gas using combined-cycle technology. This makes it possible to optimize fuel consumption, achieving an efficiency rate of more than 55%. Its expected annual output is estimated at 2,875 GWh. The electricity generated is fed into the national grid through 400,000-volt high-voltage transmission lines.
“We have gathered here to celebrate hope: the hope that will strengthen our country, which will not only provide electricity to households at home but also supply electricity to households in our brotherly countries across the sub-region, because Côte d’Ivoire is an energy hub,” said the Head of Government.
Speaking on the occasion, Minister Mamadou Sangafowa-Coulibaly stated that the commissioning of this power plant brings Côte d’Ivoire’s installed electricity generation capacity to 3,337 MW, enabling the country to achieve and exceed the 3,000 MW target set under the 2021–2025 National Development Plan.
Beyond its contribution to energy supply, Atinkou also demonstrates the value of national expertise. As its Managing Director, Bernard N’Guessan Kouassi, pointed out, the power plant was built with the involvement of Ivorian companies and is now operated by local professionals trained to meet the technical requirements of this infrastructure. In 2025, more than 90% of the value of its contracts was awarded to Ivorian companies.
The Prime Minister praised this collective effort, particularly highlighting the expertise of young Ivorian technicians and engineers. He also emphasized the contribution of financial and institutional partners to the completion of this project, which supports the country's broader economic development.
