Recent Gas Discoveries Enable Affordable Electricity for Côte d'Ivoire

The Minister of Mines, Petroleum, and Energy, Mamadou Sangafowa-Coulibaly, has indicated that the recent natural gas discoveries off our coasts present promising prospects for the electricity sector in Côte d'Ivoire. Mamadou Sangafowa-Coulibaly made this statement during the press conference "Les Rendez-vous du Gouvernement" on Thursday, June 6, 2024, in Abidjan.

According to him, natural gas, now classified as a transitional energy source towards renewable energies, will allow Côte d'Ivoire to access affordable electric energy for households and businesses by 2030. Ultimately, this will enable the country to undertake its energy transition with greater certainty.

These discoveries, emphasized Mamadou Sangafowa-Coulibaly, will also enable our country to meet its needs, export liquefied natural gas, and play a leading role in the sub-regional electricity market.

For the minister, the electricity sector is where the country has made the most significant progress over the past decade. It remains an inherently structuring sector with crucial stakes for all countries, particularly for African countries including Côte d'Ivoire.
