Cotton Sector: Côte d'Ivoire Records 347,922 Tonnes Production for 2023-2024 Season Against 236,186 Tonnes in 2022-2023

Côte d'Ivoire's cotton sector recorded a production of 347,922 tonnes for the 2023-2024 season, compared to 236,186 tonnes in 2022-2023. This information was provided by Dr. Adama Coulibaly, the Director General of the Cotton and Cashew Council, during the weekly platform of the Government Information and Communication Center (CICG) called "All About" (TSS) on June 4, 2024.

According to Dr. Adama Coulibaly, there has been a significant increase in production during the 2023-2024 season, with a gain of 111,736 tonnes compared to the previous season. He noted that the production in the 2022-2023 period was hampered by jassids, "these pest insects that reduced seed cotton production to 236,186 tonnes."

However, he recalled that the demarcation of production zones and their allocation to cotton companies (zoning) has boosted seed cotton production, which increased from 310,377 tonnes in the 2015-2016 period to a record level of 559,483 tonnes during the 2020-2021 season.

This performance was made possible, he believes, thanks to government support and actions taken by the Cotton and Cashew Council in collaboration with the stakeholders grouped within INTERCOTON.
