Côte d’Ivoire shines on the global stage with Cheick Sallah Cissé, Olympic champion and now newly appointed member of the Athletes’ Commission of the International Olympic Committee (IOC). He is only the third African to join this influential global body.
Cissé’s exceptional career includes gold at Rio 2016 and bronze at Paris 2024, and he continues to inspire as a leader. Beyond his sporting success, he actively promotes youth empowerment and sports development across Africa through his foundation and his role as co-chair of the World Taekwondo Athletes’ Commission.
Reflecting on his appointment, Cissé stated:
"This responsibility goes beyond me. It represents the recognition of Ivorian sport, the rightful place of our youth in decision-making, and the international reach of our sporting diplomacy."
With this historic milestone, Cheick Sallah Cissé not only elevates Ivorian sport but also strengthens African representation in global sports governance.
