Didier Drogba receives Commander of Côte d’Ivoire’s Order of Solidarity Merit

Former Côte d’Ivoire captain Didier Drogba has been awarded the rank of Commander of the Order of Solidarity Merit for his commitment to supporting vulnerable people through the Didier Drogba Foundation.

Drogba received the distinction on Tuesday, Sept. 22, 2026, during the official celebration of Côte d’Ivoire’s National Solidarity Day at the Bernard Binlin Dadié Palace of Culture in Abidjan-Treichville.

He was among 48 individuals and organizations recognized for their actions in support of vulnerable populations. The recipients were awarded three ranks of the Order of Solidarity Merit: 10 Commanders, 12 Officers and 26 Knights.

The distinctions were awarded on behalf of President Alassane Ouattara in recognition of actions carried out for people facing vulnerability.

Drogba, who was recognized as a Commander, represented the recipients during the ceremony. He said the distinction recognized the commitment of people who work to assist disadvantaged communities, reduce vulnerability and contribute to a more united and supportive society.

He also described the recognition as an additional responsibility to continue solidarity initiatives and highlighted the theme of this year’s National Solidarity Day: “Solidarity: everyone’s concern, everyone’s responsibility for a Great Côte d’Ivoire.”

The ceremony was presided over by Myss Belmonde Dogo, Minister of National Cohesion, Solidarity and the Fight Against Poverty. She called for the development of a “National Commitment to Solidarity” involving the state, businesses, local authorities, associations, communities, traditional and religious leaders, and citizens.

The National Solidarity Day also included initiatives benefiting vulnerable households and communities, including the distribution of food and non-food items.

Drogba’s distinction comes as Côte d’Ivoire recognizes individuals and organizations involved in efforts aimed at supporting vulnerable populations and strengthening social solidarity.
