African music legend Meiway was honored on Wednesday, May 21, during the Prix d’Excellence Mboa Paris 2026 ceremony, an event recognizing influential African personalities in culture, leadership and entrepreneurship.
The Ivorian artist, widely regarded as one of the pioneers of modern Francophone African music, received the award in Paris in the presence of several figures from the African cultural scene and diaspora communities.
Born Frédéric Désiré Patrice Ehui, Meiway rose to prominence in the 1990s through “Zoblazo,” a musical style inspired by traditional Ivorian rhythms that he helped popularize across Africa and internationally.
The distinction recognizes decades of artistic achievements, international tours and his lasting influence on multiple generations of African musicians.
Prix d’Excellence Mboa Paris 2026 annually celebrates African personalities whose work contributes to the continent’s global influence and cultural visibility. This year’s edition honored several artists, entrepreneurs and community leaders from across Africa.
On social media, fans and cultural figures praised the recognition awarded to the Ivorian icon, widely seen as one of the enduring symbols of African musical heritage.
