The ninth edition of the International Urban Music Awards (PRIMUD) took place on the evening of November 10-11, 2024, in Abidjan. The 2024 Palme d'Or was awarded to the talented Ivorian singer Roseline Layo. In addition to the prestigious trophy, she took home a cash prize of 20 million CFA francs.

Roseline Layo, born Layo Man Roseline, is one of the rising stars of the Ivorian music scene. Born on December 21, 1993, in Man, western Côte d'Ivoire, this young artist embodies passion, perseverance, and talent. Coming from a modest background, with a mother who is a homemaker and a father who works at the National Bureau of Technical Studies and Development (BNETD), Roseline found her path to music at a young age, using it as a means of self-expression and creativity, even though education wasn’t her first choice.

Self-taught and ambitious, she began her music journey by joining church groups, where she honed her vocal skills and passion for singing. Her musical career took a significant turn when she participated in the Star Karaoké show on RTI in 2014, where she made it to the final and finished third. This experience marked the start of a promising career. She then joined the all-female band Bella Mondo before deciding to pursue a solo career. She performed in various clubs and restaurants in Abidjan, which led her to perform in Geneva and Paris in 2018.

Roseline Layo gained widespread recognition in 2021 with her hit Donnez-nous un peu, taken from her debut album Élus de Dieu. This track propelled her to the top of the charts, marking the real breakthrough of her career. In 2023, she received her first gold disc in Paris, a distinction recognizing her hard work and impact on the music scene. On October 9, 2024, her album Élus de Dieu was awarded the Ivorian Gold Disc after selling over 10,000 copies and accumulating more than 25 million streams. She became the third Ivorian artist to receive this coveted certification.

Roseline Layo is not just an accomplished artist, but also a determined, humble, and committed young woman whose career continues to evolve with strength. With her catchy rhythms, profound lyrics, and natural charisma, she represents the new generation of Ivorian artists who, while honoring their cultural roots, are making a name for themselves on the international stage. Today, she is recognized as a rising figure in African music, a role model for young talent, and an ambassador for the cultural richness of Côte d'Ivoire.
