External Communications Manager

OBJECTIVES

A leading gold producer in West Africa, Endeavour Mining operates in Burkina Faso, Côte d’Ivoire, and Senegal. In an environment marked by national, regional, and international reputational challenges, managing the company’s image with external stakeholders is a major strategic priority.

In this context, we are recruiting an External Communications Manager. Acting as a true ambassador of the company’s values, the successful candidate will play a key role in strengthening Endeavour’s brand awareness, protecting its reputation, and implementing a communication strategy aligned with its objectives.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

Reporting to the Vice President of Communications and working closely with specialized media relations and influence agencies, the External Communications Manager’s duties will focus on four main areas:

Media and Reputation Monitoring

  • Collect and analyze information published in the media (press, social networks, blogs, specialized websites) regarding the company, its competitors, and the sector to anticipate trends, opportunities, and risks.
  • Measure the company’s perception among media, public opinion, and stakeholders using analytical tools (social media monitoring, sentiment analysis).

Media and Opinion Leader Relations

  • Build and maintain a mapping of decision-makers, influencers, and potential allies in order to turn them into company ambassadors.
  • Strengthen relationships with media and opinion leaders to promote Endeavour’s initiatives and reinforce its reputation.
  • Coordinate strategic media partnerships and oversee media coverage of company news.
  • Organize media events (press conferences, media briefings, press visits) to encourage regular interaction with journalists.
  • Draft and distribute editorial content (key messages, press releases, press kits, opinion pieces) tailored to target audiences.
  • Handle media inquiries with responsiveness and accuracy.

Social Media

  • Define and implement a visibility, influence, and impact strategy on social media with clear and measurable objectives.
  • Create and publish engaging content (text, visuals, videos) aligned with brand identity.
  • Analyze campaign performance to adjust actions and optimize results.

Crisis Communication

  • Identify early warning signals and anticipate reputational risks.
  • Develop crisis communication plans for various scenarios and prepare relevant and impactful key messages.

 

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

Education & Experience

  • University degree (BA or MA) in journalism, communications, public relations, or marketing (other degrees accepted depending on experience).
  • 7 to 10 years of experience in a similar role, ideally within an international company or agency.
  • Experience in writing for diverse audiences. A background in journalism or media relations is an asset.
  • Fluent English and strong command of modern communication tools.

Required Skills

  • Writing: Excellent French and English writing skills, producing impactful and audience-adapted content.
  • Oral communication: Ability to represent the company and embody its values with external stakeholders.
  • Interpersonal: Strong collaboration skills with internal teams and external partners.
  • Creative: Ability to design innovative strategies and engaging communication materials.

Knowledge of the mining sector is a plus but not mandatory.
