Born in Abidjan in 1987, AHOURÉ Murielle left the Ivory Coast at the age of 14 for the United States, where she took up athletics. Her father is a general in the Ivorian army.
In 2011, she set a personal best time of 11.06 (2011). In March 2012, in her first international competition, she became world indoor runner-up in Istanbul. She trains in Houston, Texas. She raised her record to 11 s 00 (zero wind), the Ivorian national record, by winning the 100 m at the Golden Gala in Rome, the third stage of the Diamond League, on May 31, 2012. In the Italian capital, she beat the three Jamaican runners who made up the podium at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing: Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce, Kerron Stewart and Sherone Simpson. Five days after her impressive performance at the Rome meeting, Murielle Ahouré won the 100 m at the Montreuil meeting with a strong headwind (-2.0 m/s) and light rain (11 s 32).
On June 7, at the Oslo Bislett Games, 5th stage of the 2012 Diamond League, she won the race and broke the Ivorian national record in the 200 m with a time of 22 s 42, ahead of Jamaicans Sheri-Ann Brooks, Kerron Stewart and Sherone Simpson4. At the 2012 Summer Olympics, on August 3, she beat her personal best by one hundredth in the heats, taking it to 10.99. On August 4, in the 100-meter final, she finished in 7th place with a time of 11.00, after having secured the last qualifying place with a time of 11.01 in the semi-finals held earlier in the evening.
