Bouaké and Yopougon Markets Development Project: AFD Provides Additional Financing

Abidjan, July 22, 2026 – On October 11, 2024, the French Development Agency (Agence Française de Développement - AFD) and Côte d'Ivoire signed an amendment to the credit agreement, providing additional financing amounting to a total of 28.285 million euros (slightly over 18.553 billion FCFA). This funding is dedicated to the supplementary financing of the market development project in Bouaké (Côte d'Ivoire’s second-largest city) and Yopougon (the largest and most populous commune in Abidjan).

According to the Minister of Communication and Government Spokesperson, Amadou Coulibaly, this amendment ratified during the Council of Ministers on Wednesday, July 22, 2026, at the Presidential Palace in Abidjan-Plateau provides additional funding added to the initial resources mobilized for the development of the Bouaké and Yopougon markets.

Eventually, he announced, these modern infrastructures namely the Bouaké commercial zone and the Yopougon semi-wholesale and retail market will improve the supply and marketing conditions of goods while enhancing the commercial functions of these two major communes.
