Côte d'Ivoire Strengthens Its Mining Sector with New Exploration Permits
The Côte d'Ivoire government has adopted four decrees granting mining exploration permits, three of which are dedicated to gold, highlighting the strategic importance of this metal for the national economy. These permits, each valid for four years, have been awarded to ZS Ressources Sarl for exploration in the Daoukro department, and to Schiba Mining SA for research in the Touba department. A fourth permit was granted to Gold Bon Ressources Minières Côte d'Ivoire SARL for the exploration of copper and nickel in the Sipilou and Danané departments.
These initiatives are part of a broader growth dynamic in the Côte d'Ivoire mining sector. In 2024, the country attracted $122 million in investments for mining exploration, reflecting increased interest from international companies in the country's gold potential and favorable business conditions in Côte d'Ivoire.
National gold production has seen a significant increase, rising from 10 tons in 2012 to 55 tons in 2024, with a projection of 65 tons for 2025. This progress is the result of the opening of new mines and the development of promising deposits, such as those identified in Tanda-Iguéla, Abujar, Séguéla, and Koné.
The granting of these new exploration permits aims to encourage further investments and strengthen Côte d'Ivoire's position as a major player in the mining sector in West Africa. The government continues to implement reforms to improve the business climate and attract strategic partners, thereby contributing to the country's economic development and resource diversification
