Côte d’Ivoire Secures $53.2 Million Loan to Build Kobo–Kanawolo Highway Section

The Ivorian government has approved a loan agreement of 30 billion FCFA (approximately $53.2 million) with the West African Development Bank (BOAD) to partially finance the construction of the Kobo–Kanawolo section of the Northern Highway.

The decision was taken during the Council of Ministers held on Wednesday, June 3, 2026, according to government spokesperson Amadou Coulibaly.

The 47.3-kilometre dual carriageway (2x2 lanes) is part of the strategic Northern Corridor linking the Autonomous Port of Abidjan to landlocked neighboring countries.

According to the government, the financing will accelerate the completion of this key infrastructure project, aimed at improving traffic flow and supporting growing transport demand along one of the country’s most important economic routes.

Authorities emphasize that the project will strengthen regional connectivity and enhance Côte d’Ivoire’s role as a logistics hub for West Africa.
