Côte d’Ivoire: A New 115-Tonne Gold Deposit Identified Near Boundiali
Côte d’Ivoire has reconfirmed the potential of its underground gold reserves. In the northern part of the country, near Boundiali, Australian company Aurum Resources has identified a deposit with resources estimated at 115 tonnes of gold following two years of exploration.
The project represents an estimated investment of $503 million. Mine construction is expected to begin by the end of the year, subject to securing the necessary financing. Production, estimated at six tonnes of gold per year, could start in the first half of 2028.
Boundiali thus strengthens the country’s portfolio of gold projects, alongside Tanda-Iguela, Doropo, and Koné. The latter recorded its first gold pour of 42 kg on September 26, 2026.
The sector's growth has already been significant. In fifteen years, Ivorian gold production has risen nearly fivefold, from 12 tonnes in 2011 to 59.4 tonnes in 2025.
The development of the Boundiali project now hinges on raising capital and transitioning to the construction phase. Its commercial production could help reinforce Côte d’Ivoire’s position among the continent’s leading gold producers.
