Cotton Sector: Government Establishes Agro-Industrial Zoning

The Ivorian government has approved a decree on agro-industrial zoning in the cotton sector, following the Council of Ministers held on Wednesday, November 20, 2024.

“The agro-industrial zoning initiative is part of government incentives to attract more investments into the cotton sector and provide effective support to producers,” stated Amadou Coulibaly, Minister of Communication and government spokesperson.

He further explained that agro-industrial zoning involves dividing the cotton production area into 18 optimal production and collection zones known as exclusive activity zones, each organized around ginning units.

These exclusive production areas will be contractually assigned to cotton companies, with each private operator tasked with providing agricultural support, purchasing seed cotton, and developing the sector within their designated zone.

This initiative is expected to enhance efficiency and drive growth in Côte d’Ivoire’s cotton industry while ensuring better organization and support for producers.
