Electricity Sector: Algerian Experts' Delegation on a Working Mission in Côte d’Ivoire

As part of the sectoral technical cooperation between the Ministry of Mines, Petroleum and Energy of the Republic of Côte d’Ivoire and the People's Democratic Republic of Algeria, a delegation of experts from Algeria’s National Electricity and Gas Company (SONELGAZ) is undertaking a working mission in Côte d’Ivoire from June 27 to July 1, 2026.

The conference room on the 15th floor of the SCIAM Building in Abidjan, which houses the offices of the Ministry of Mines, Petroleum and Energy, hosted the official launch meeting of the working visit between Ivorian and Algerian electricity sector experts.

The Algerian delegation was warmly welcomed by the Ivorian energy sector delegation, led by Jacques Chevalier, Technical Advisor in charge of International and Multilateral Relations.

Speaking on behalf of the Minister of Mines, Petroleum and Energy, Chevalier welcomed the visiting delegation and outlined the expectations of the Ivorian authorities.

"The energy sector of Côte d’Ivoire expects a great deal from you. Our respective ministers have taken important initiatives during their various meetings. It is now our responsibility, as experts, to turn those initiatives into concrete actions. We are counting on this mission, and we have high expectations regarding the support that Algeria can provide to help us achieve the objectives of Côte d’Ivoire’s energy sector," said the representative of Minister Mamadou Sangafowa-Coulibaly.

For his part, Djouambi Tahar, Technical Advisor to Algeria’s Minister in charge of Energy, welcomed the strong Ivorian delegation. According to him, this broad participation will help the Algerian experts better understand Côte d’Ivoire’s expectations and successfully accomplish the mission entrusted to them.

"Our primary objective in travelling to Côte d’Ivoire is to build on the progress made following the recent visit of Ivorian experts to Algeria. We will work together with commitment and dedication, and the various meetings scheduled during this mission will represent a decisive stage in strengthening our cooperation," said the head of the Algerian delegation.

During the opening meeting, Kalifa Ehouman, Director General of Energy, presented the institutional framework of Côte d’Ivoire’s electricity sector as well as the various entities involved in its management and development.

Jacob Akoussi, Technical Advisor in charge of Energy, then presented the programme of the SONELGAZ experts' visit.

In addition to technical meetings with their Ivorian counterparts, the Algerian experts will visit key institutions and strategic facilities within Côte d’Ivoire’s electricity sector to explore new opportunities for cooperation and identify promising prospects for the country's energy development.
