Improving the Performance of World Bank-Funded Projects: Government Pledges to Implement Workshop Recommendations

The Ivorian government has committed to executing the conclusions and recommendations from the Workshop on Defining and Validating Monitoring Mechanisms for the Performance of World Bank-funded or co-financed projects. This assurance was given by Koffi Georges Bolamo, Deputy Chief of Staff representing Prime Minister Robert Beugré Mambé, during the closing ceremony of the workshop on Saturday, September 21, 2024, in Grand-Bassam. The event was attended by Tony Verheijen, the World Bank's Operations Representative, and Silué Siélé, Technical Advisor at the Presidency of the Republic of Côte d'Ivoire.

In his remarks, Koffi Georges Bolamo encouraged project coordinators, team members, and stakeholders involved in project execution to take ownership of the workshop's outcomes and fully commit to their implementation. He highlighted the unique opportunity for them to be part of a historical shift in the approach to managing development projects in Côte d'Ivoire.

Tony Verheijen praised the Ivorian government's dedication and the stakeholders' active involvement in implementing the institution's project portfolio. "This level of commitment is something I have rarely seen in my 20 years at the World Bank," he stated.

The workshop produced an exhaustive list of deliverables and key decisions, all adopted consensually by the stakeholders. Over four days, key actors within the ecosystem of World Bank project management in Côte d'Ivoire worked tirelessly in Grand-Bassam to achieve these results.
