SGPME Boosts SME Financing in Côte d’Ivoire Past 100 Billion CFA Francs
After three years of operations, the Ivorian SME Credit Guarantee Company (SGPME) has surpassed the 100 billion CFA franc mark in mobilized financing for Ivorian SMEs as of March 31, 2026.
The announcement was made on Monday, May 18, 2026, in Abidjan by Joelle Kouassi. According to the institution, a total of 108,774,808,110 CFA francs in financing has been mobilized, supported by 54,800,275,177 CFA francs in guarantees, benefiting 3,715 Ivorian SMEs.
These funds were raised through the Partial Portfolio Guarantee (PPG), a risk-sharing mechanism implemented with financial institutions to facilitate large-scale access to credit for small and medium-sized enterprises.
The results reflect SGPME’s principle of additionality, which aims to enable partner banks and microfinance institutions to finance businesses, sectors, and projects that would otherwise struggle to access credit without guarantee mechanisms.
Through this system, SMEs operating in key sectors such as agriculture, agro-processing, industry, transport, services, events, and production activities have been able to access bank financing and accelerate their growth.
SGPME acts as a catalyst between SMEs and financial institutions by reducing the level of risk borne by lenders, thereby promoting financial inclusion and strengthening private sector financing.
These achievements also highlight the strong public-private partnership between the State of Côte d’Ivoire, SGPME, and its twelve financial partner institutions committed to supporting SME development and growth.
Aligned with the strategic vision of President Alassane Ouattara, SGPME was created by the Ivorian government to address the structural challenge of SME access to financing.
The Ivorian SME Credit Guarantee Company (SGPME) is a banking-type financial guarantee institution approved by the West African Central Bank (BCEAO). It is a public limited company fully owned by the State of Côte d’Ivoire, with a share capital of 10 billion CFA francs.
